17α-Hydroxyprogesterone-d8 is a deuterium labeled 17α-hydroxyprogesterone and is intended for use as an internal standard utilized in the measurement of 17α-hydroxyprogesterone through GC- or LC-MS methods.
17α-hydroxyprogesterone is a 17α-hydroxy derivative of progesterone and is a steroid itself that is secreted in parallel to progesterone from the corpus luteum. 17α-hydroxyprogesterone may be a better marker of corpus luteum function in early pregnancy than progesterone because there is limited placental hydroxylation at this stage. High levels of 17α-hydroxyprogesterone are observed in congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). 17α-hydroxyprogesterone caproate is currently the only medication approved to prevent recurrent preterm birth.
