Propionyl-L-carnitine chloride, chloride of the ester of propanoic acid and carnitine, is the main analyte in the diagnosis propionic acidemia or methylmalonic acidemia. Propionylcarnitine plays an important role in fatty acid metabolism and energy production in the body.
The product is used primarily as a control for MS/MS.
Propionylcarnitine is included in newborn screening programs based on tandem mass spectrometry.
