Tegoprazan is a reversible inhibitor of the proton pump (H+/K+-ATPase) in gastric parietal cells, belonging to the class of potassium-competitive acid blockers (P-CABs). Unlike traditional proton pump inhibitors, tegoprazan does not require acid activation and blocks the enzyme directly, ensuring a rapid onset of action and stable suppression of acid secretion independent of food intake. Tegoprazan is used for the treatment of acid-related diseases: erosive and non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), for healing duodenal ulcers, and as part of combination therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. In preclinical research, tegoprazan is employed to study the physiology of acid secretion, evaluate the effects of novel combinations with gastroprotectants and antibiotics, and to develop treatment methods for atrophic gastritis and the prevention of NSAID-induced gastropathy.
